It’s easy to throw this thing on every track that you think needs it, and practice to help familiarize yourself with the different parameters that make compression work. I would definitely recommend this plugin to any novice audio engineer who is first dipping their feet into compression. There is also a section for makeup gain so you can increase your volume once you have compressed your audio. What makes this compressor useful is that it gives the user control over the attack, threshold, ratio, and release which in return allows you more total control over the compression being done at hand. There are three separate digital meters two for the input and output gains, and one for the gain reduction being done during compression. This is what your basic compressor plugin is generally going to look like, and a very similar interface to the one I learned while I was first learning.
The C1 is a great all-around compressor and I use it on everything from basic drum tracks to sub-mixes and group buses. But in the end I switched to Studio-One and have been very pleased.The Waves C1 Compressor is an excellent choice if you’re looking for a more basic looking compressor while still wanting all the essential parameters needed. With the exception of delay and reverb, just about everything you need is there. Harrison is a great product and really shouldn't require plugins.
Not an issue if you're mastering, but for rehearsals I needed to upload MP3's for the guys ASAP. Lastly, I don't think there is a way to export to MP3.

In addition, other non-wave plugins that did run often caused the software to crash. I got Waves involved and they stated that Harrison is one of the few DAWS their plugins have issues with and therefore do not support. The shell just wouldn't load, even after countless e-mail exchanges about work-arounds with their people. For the other bands I'm recording, Mixbus just wouldn't work primarily due to the incompatibility with my Waves plugins. I love the sound and the idea of mixing on a "true" console without all of the plugins.

Joel, I'm also using Windows 7 and I still use the Harrison Mixbus on occasion to mix my own band's rehearsals. It is just what I have learned and my opinion. Welcome to the forum LarBear! Please don't take my response as attitude.
This is just my opinion on what seems obvious to me. An emulation of tape saturation may help you, but it seems you are missing what makes that sound to begin with. It is the using of the hardware available then to it's fullest extent (maybe) that gives it it's particular sound. It is not a modern plugin that will make things sound classic or old. Just get the tone of the instrument, and more importantly, the performance down and you will find what you are looking for. Use the instruments that were used then, and start 'stopping' trying so hard is my opinion.Ĭrappy mics and great recording techniques with a great performance trump any plugin that claims to get any particular sound. You do realize that what gives you the classic 70's sound i s gear that is less precise than what we have available now right? What makes that sound is the quality of the performance and the particular room it was recorded in.
